Iceman

I  was looking at the National Geographic website earlier today, and I read an article about the apline Iceman.  You can go to the National Geographic website to get the full story at:  http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/10/1030_031030_icemandeath.html

The article is about 2 German climbers, who in 1991, found the body of a 5300 years old man frozen in a glacier in the Alps. The man had died while on the mountain and his body became perfectly preserved from the snow that packed on it. Now scientists are saying there is another theory of his death, and that is that he was killed in battle.

I think that it is amazing how we can learn so much from just a body that was frozen in a glacier. Very cool! I hope everyone that reads this will leave a comment!

vector racing

The other day I learned about a fun game, it is called Vector Racing. Vector racing is a game that you play on graph paper with a pencil and a friend. Here is what you do:

Preperation: Draw a random course that includes a ’start’ and ‘finish’.

How to play: The goal of Vector racing is to be the first one to cross the finish line. Your car is placed where the grid-lines intersect. Every turn, you have the choice to: speed up, speed up + turn, slow down, and slow down + turn (you move to other grid-lines).This means every turn you can choose between 9 different places to move your car. You and your opponent take turns after each other has gone. You will build up momentum from speeding up, but if you hit a wall (the line you drew) you lose. Another way to crash is if you run into your opponent’s car.

I really enjoy this game, and if you think you understand the procedure of the game, I suggest you try playing.

Boyscouts

It’s that time of year again, when all you hear is the consistent knock on your front-door! You go to your door wondering who might be at your home this early on a Saturday. As you open the door, you are immediately greeted by a cheerful little boyscout who tells you about all the great stuff he is selling this year. You know that you already are buying from your nephew, but you can’t say no to this smiling little boy, so you decide to buy a 24” Christmas wreath. After the transaction is made and he says thank you, you go back to reading your newspaper and drinking your coffee.

About 30 minutes later, you hear another knock at the door. ‘Not another one’ you think to yourself as you put down the paper and answer the door. And sure enough, there is an even smaller little boyscout in his nice uniform selling popcorn and wreaths. It’s the same thing all over again, you can’t resist, so you buy a caramel popcorn tin.

I have heard from many people that it can be frustrating having scouts come to your house time and time again, but I just love it! I don’t always buy from everyone, but when I do I know that the money is going mostly to the scouts. They need it more than I do. They use the money that they earn to go on camp outs and to get an experience that they normally would not receive. Anyway, if you have scouts come through your neighborhood anytime soon, be sure that you consider that the money is going to them.

Contest results!

Last night my friends and I had a rubber band gun contest. I lost. I was, however, the only person who made a handgun. One of my friends built an amazing pirate style gun that could probably sell for $200.00! That is, if you like pirate style rubber-band guns.

We had a massive shootout, too! There were rubber-bands flying everywhere. There wasn’t exactly a way to define the winner, but if there was I would’ve won. I said I would post a picture of my Lego gun, so here it is.

Rubber-bang gun

rubber-band gun

My friends and I are going to have a huge rubber-band gun contest. The winner is going to win a pizza party! We all are going to make a rubber-band gun and show them off and judge them. They will be judged on accuracy, distance (while shooting), and how visually appealing they are.

I made a handgun out of Lego’s, and it looks really cool! I will submit a picture of it with my next post about how the contest turns out to be.
